GET ready to batten down the hatches as the Met Office is predicting a very windy night for Oxfordshire.

The county has been issued a yellow weather warning for 'very strong winds' later today and into tomorrow.

Forecasts expect it to be a miserable day throughout, with heavy rain predicted from 11am.

This is later expected to turn into strong winds and heavy rain from 6pm and overnight.

Gusts of up to 46mph are forecast plus the possibility of thunder storms early tomorrow morning.

The windy weather warning is in place until 9am tomorrow.

The Met Office has said: "There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or through falling trees and branches."

Adding: "There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. Some roads and bridges could close and there is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."

The windy weather is expected to ease throughout Friday and Saturday, before making a return on Sunday night and in to Monday.
