HEART heroes united for fundraising efforts in Bicester as supermarket staff donned capes and Lycra to pull in the pounds.

The team from Tesco in Lakeview Drive off the A41 took on the role with some of the heroes raising awareness in store with customers.

Children were invited to design their own superhero mask and cape and a tombola was held over the weekend to help boost donations for the British Heart Foundation.

Elsewhere the fundraising heroes from Tesco also took to the streets to join in the Pretty Muddy 5K in South Park, Oxford.

Bicester Tesco community champion Bryan Taunton said: “We are thrilled to be raising awareness and funds for the British Heart Foundation; the arrival of #TescoHeartHeroes in store was not only great fun but a great way to raise money to support a fantastic cause.

"While in store children were invited to design their own super hero mask.

"We had a tombola at the front of the store on Sunday, seeing customers win an array of prizes including an Amazon Fire HD8 tablet. Thanks to our customers we raised over £490 for the British Heart Foundation."

He added: "On the Saturday we also had our very own super hero colleagues running the Cancer Research Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5K in South Park."

It all came as part of the Tesco fundraising campaign Little Helps for Healthier Living – a partnership between Tesco, Diabetes UK, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

British Heart Foundation Tesco partnership manager Polly Barr said: "Looking through the many #TescoHeartHeros pic and I can’t stop smiling.

"Thank you to everyone who has got involved – you’re certainly putting the ‘fun’ in fundraising."
