A WOMAN has died after a crash between a motorbike and a bus on a busy roundabout on Monday morning. 

The rider of the motorcycle, a 50-year-old woman from Abingdon, died at the scene, police have said. 

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

Heyfordian, the bus company involved, said it is helping police with their investigation.

The crash, involving a a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a bus, happened at around 6.50am just off the Bladon roundabout in the direction of the A4260.

The roundabout on the A44, Woodstock Road, was blocked all morning due to the incident with traffic impacted in the surrounding area.

The Upper Campsfield Road, the A4095, was closed in both directions and didn't reopen until 1.15pm.

Traffic towards Oxford was very slow and there were tail backs through Woodstock with drivers experiencing delays of up to 25 minutes.

Stagecoach Oxford advised its S3 service was being delayed by up to 30 minutes. 

The Heyfordian Travel Group, based in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, has confirmed one of its coaches was involved. 

Chris Nice, spokesman for the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK, speaking on behalf of the company, said: "Heyfordian is assisting police with their investigation. 

"The coach was fitted with CCTV and the police will be reviewing this in due course."

Police and ambulance services were on the scene all morning with drivers being recommended to find alternative routes. 

Investigating officer Sergeant Chris Ruff, of the joint operations unit for roads policing based at Bicester, said: “Officers were called to the scene by South Central Ambulance Service this morning following the collision.

“Tragically, a 50-year-old woman died at the scene, and I am appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage, to call 101, quoting URN 141 (17/9).

"The road remains closed between the A44 and A4260, and there may be some short temporary closures at the Bladon roundabout to allow accident investigation work to continue."

South Central Ambulance Spokesman David Gallagher said: "We sent two rapid response vehicles and two ambulances to the scene after receiving an emergency 999 call at 06.55 this morning reporting a serious collision between a motorcyclist and a bus on the A44/A4095 roundabout."
