DEMOLITION work is forging ahead on a former Oxfordshire prep school.

Contractors moved in last week on the Ferndale School site in the centre of Faringdon to start tearing down the old buildings to make way for flats.

The demolition has revealed leftover school supplies including books which were left inside.

Housing developer Daniel Ede is planning to convert the buildings into ten houses.

The main building on the site on Bromsgrove, next door to La Bobina Tapas restaurant, is to be converted into eight flats, while the demolition of the old dining hall will make way for two new houses.

The prep school, which catered for pupils aged from two to 11, went into administration and shut on July 22, 2016.

A total of 19 staff members lost their jobs.

Administrators FRP Advisory said Ferndale House had been ‘facing pressures on cash flow’ and advised parents to ‘seek alternative options for their children for the start of the new academic year’.

Daniel Ede won planning permission to convert the listed buildings in October.
