TOURISTS were treated to a tour around Oxford's historic streets in aid of charity.

Footprints Tours, the student-led start-up, held the charity tour day on September 7 as it seeks to 'set a precedent' for ethical tourism in Oxford.

The event raised £1,058 for Crisis to support its fight to end homelessness.

Nearly 150 locals and tourists turned up on the day to support the event.

The company runs daily tours of the city including a look at Harry Potter destinations and pubs.

It took action after becoming increasingly concerned about the issue of homelessness in Oxford which it says is mentioned on a daily basis by locals and tourists while walking around on tours.

Crisis run services for homeless people from the Skylight centre in the Old Fire Station.

This includes a cafe and hosts several workshops including yoga, a breakfast club and crafts.

Lucy Holton- Walsh, the regional fundraising executive for Crisis said the donation would have a huge impact on the work they do.

She added: “Our work at Crisis Skylight Oxford is only possible because of the incredible support from people who volunteer and donate, united in a belief that we can end homelessness.

"We would like to thank Footprints for their donation of £1058, which helps us provide homeless people with vital support and a way out of homelessness for good."
