AROUND 170 counter-fraud experts will be brought together at a conference in Oxford.

Oxford City Council is organising the event in Oxford Town Hall on September 20 with the aim of stamping out public sector fraud.

In what is thought to be the largest local authority organised conference of this type, industry leaders will give a series of talks.

Councillor Ed Turner, city council deputy leader and board member for finance and asset management said: "Since it started two years ago Oxford's Annual Fraud Conference has firmly established itself as the country's prime event for industry professionals to exchange ideas, experience and best practice.

"Its growing reputation is due in no small part to it being organised by the City Council's award winning Fraud Investigation Team, who have a proven track record in uncovering fraudulent activity not only in Oxford, but also in the other districts both within and outside of Oxfordshire.

"They provide a cost effective anti-fraud service that is second to none."
