A ‘STAGGERING’ £375,000 has been raised as the total funds were totted up for this year’s Twin Town charity Challenge.

A gala event on Friday celebrated this year’s race from Blenheim Palace to Le Touquet in France.

One hundred movie-themed cars took part as the event got under way on a wet day in May where alongside umbrellas there were a variety of vehicles - including Mystery Machines and Jurassic Park-style Jeeps.

The fundraiser takes place every two years and is staged to raise money for charity.

It involves teams buying a £500 vehicle and getting creative to spruce up the cars before taking to the road.

Then over the Spring bank holiday they take on the epic road trip between twin towns and end up the northern France area of Le Touquet.

The journey includes charity challenges and circuit laps along the way.

Organisers have dubbed this year’s event hugely successful after Twin Towners helped to raise the impressive £375,000 for charity.

It comes as the third year for the event and across those three events has now raised £820,000.

All the money raised over the events history has been to support West Oxfordshire based charity SpecialEffect in Charlbury.

The charity works to provide support for people with learning difficulties using technology including video games.
