OXFORD High School has moved to reassure parents’ asbestos concerns.

The school has told worried parents that there are no safety issues with delayed demolition work on a project to build a new sixth form and arts building.

Maria Gara, Director of Communications and Development, said: “For us, the safety and comfort of our pupils is of paramount importance so over the next few days as the work develops we will have regulation hoardings around the site at all times to provide a safety barrier.

“The removal of asbestos is a necessary but also a standard and carefully controlled stage in all building projects of this type.”

Parents had expressed concerns to the Oxford Mail that asbestos removal work was going on while children were in the vicinity, and said they hoped the work would be done during the holidays.
