A NEW passenger bridge has been lifted into place at Didcot Parkway station.

Network Rail Western used several large cranes to manoeuvre the large metal footbridge into place overnight on Monday.

It will help connect passengers with a new multi-story car park at the station.

Work on this car park began in April 2017 and is nearing completion.

It will bring 1,800 spaces to the busy station to help deal with extra demand following the introduction of new intercity express trains.

Residents have previously complained that commuters use surrounding residential roads to park while using the station, preventing them from parking and adding to congestion on the roads.

However doubts have been raised that the multi-story car park will make much of a difference as drivers are currently getting away with parking for free on the streets.

Some three million people use Didcot Parkway yearly to catch trains to Oxford, Reading, London and other destinations.

The new car park is part of a major redevelopment of the station which has also seen changes to the forecourt and frontage.

The new car park has cost £20 million and has been part funded by Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.lion and has been part funded by Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
