A NATIONAL sailing competition will come to Farmoor Reservoir this weekend.
Oxford Sailing Club (OSC) is hosting the Inland National Championships for the British Finn and Europe classes.
The Finn is the Olympic Men’s Heavyweight Class, and Britain has been dominant at the games in it, winning the last five Gold Medals with the likes of Iain Percy, Sir Ben Ainslie and Giles Scott victorious.
With this seen as the most prestigious of Olympic sailing events, racers from all over the UK will be coming to do battle for the national title.
Some of the racers will just have returned home from competing at the World Sailing Championships in Denmark and the U23 World Championships in Slovenia, including Oxfordshire’s own Cameron Tweedle.
With Farmoor Reservoir providing an all-round view of the racing, visitors are welcome to come and watch the competition which will be on all day, with the Hacketts Harbour Cafe inside the Club open for meals and snacks. It will be a rare opportunity to come and watch some of the world’s best sailors fighting it out on the water.
During the weekend, the OSC Junior sailors, the Oxford Pirates will be running a collection for the weekend’s nominated charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund.
