AN UNIDENTIFIED person has died at a level crossing in Oxford, after an incident which caused delays to rail commuters this morning.

Emergency services pronounced the person dead at Tuckwells Level Crossing just after 8am, ahead of a series of cancellations and delays between Didcot Parkway and Oxford. All lines have since reopened.

In a statement, British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Tuckwells Level Crossing, Oxford, at 8.12am today after reports of a body on the tracks.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are working to identify to this person and inform their family.

“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

It is understood that the person's injuries were consistent with being hit by a train.

Great Western Railway confirmed that the emergency services had been on the scene and dealt with the incident.

A South Central South Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We had a number of resources initially dispatched to the scene following a call we received at 08.16 this morning but all bar one (an officer in a rapid response vehicle) were stood down en route."

The person's sex had not been confirmed, with authorities still trying to contact the family of the deceased.

National Rail added that residual delays were to be expected until midday and that Great Western Railway customers can use their ticket on Chiltern Railways and CrossCountry services 'via any reasonable route.'

It said commuters between London Paddington and Oxford should instead use Chiltern services to Marylebone.

However, it has since said that all services are now cleared.

A number of trains out of Oxford have been cancelled this morning, including 10.31am to London Paddington and 10.43 to Reading.
