ORGANISERS of a German-style beer festival that was cancelled without explanation in Oxford have assured ticket holders they will get their money back.

People who spent up to £400 on tickets for Oktoberfest planned for Oxpens field said they had no idea the event was off until reading about it in the Oxford Mail.

Despite repeated attempts to get in touch with them, organisers have remained tight-lipped about why they choose to cancel.

Oxford City Council, which had given permission for the festival to take place on its land, said it was Oktoberfest themselves who decided to pull the plug.

Cancelled Oxford gin festival revived by new organisers

One customer told the Oxford Mail she had booked a VIP table for the Saturday night of the festival, worth £385, for a friend's birthday and had not been told the event had been cancelled.

After reading yesterday's article, she repeatedly emailed organisers to find out what was going on and was finally issued a response.

The email she received said: "Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel this event.

"As I'm sure you can understand we are devastated to have had to cancel this.

"Refunds have already been processed for all customers and depending on your bank you should see this within the next 5-10 working days."

Tickets for the event on October 19 and 20 were still on sale on the Eventbrite site yesterday but the link has since been taken down.
