A WEST Oxfordshire dog walker has revealed the sheer quantity of plastic rubbish littering the county's countryside.

Caroline Eckersley sent this messy montage to the Oxford Mail, saying she wanted to 'draw readers' attention to the growing environmental dilemma’.

The environmentalist took pictures of more 70 plastic items she found abandoned in verges and fields over 21 days.

Among the jettisoned objects were a pair of children's boots, a driving ‘L’ plate, wrappers, pots and many plastic bags and bottles.

Ms Eckersley proposed that the objects, all found within roughly a four-mile radius, 'could be seen as a work of art’.

This project comes amid growing concerns surrounding the impact of plastics on Oxfordshire's environment.

The Westgate Centre was criticised last week for removing Hazel Dawe, an anti-plastic advocate, after she attempted to complete a survey on plastic use there.

Nonetheless, Oxfordshire’s recycling rate is around 60 per cent - one of the best in the country.

Environmental campaigners hope to see Oxfordshire become the first county in Britain to ban single-use coffee cups.

County council cabinet member for environment Yvonne Constance previously told this paper: "The key is to reduce, re-use and recycle. We hope to make the younger generation more aware of the impact of plastic on the environment."
