A DILAPIDATED mission hall was torn down in February 1988 to make way for the new Cutteslowe Community Centre.
The centre was planned to rise from the ashes of the hall in Wren Road in Cutteslowe.
It had been built 50 years and used as a community centre for several, but plans for the new centre included an upgrade to meeting rooms, offices, a bar, hall, kitchen and central heating.
There was also plans to improve access with an entrance ramp, assisted doors and a disabled toilet.
Oxford City Council was in charge of the job which was being built a few yards from the original hall site in the grounds of Cutteslowe Primary School.
The work was expected to take a year although had been previously delayed due to financial constraints.
