For once we've had a summer – a glorious one – but that doesn't mean we wouldn't welcome some more sunshine.

And if we have an Indian summer, those lovely last warm days we often get at the end of September, a perfect place to head for is Cinnamon Kitchen on the roof of the Westgate Centre in Oxford.

Renowned chef Vivek Singh has brought his Indian street food to the upmarket Indian restaurant this summer with his JoHo SoHo offerings.

The delicacies to be enjoyed on the terrace are small plates ranging from £4 for Mumbai Chowpatty Bhelpuri – puffed rice, crisp chickpea vermicelli, peanut, spiced potatoes, tamarind and pomegranate to Chicken Tikka Wrap at £6.50.

But if you're the indecisive type, the Thali Menu at £17.50 per person is the way to go.

Available at lunchtimes and up to 6pm, we stopped off to sample it before Creation Theatre's amazing production of Brave New World, which was staged in the shopping centre.

There are two versions of the thalis, made up of a selection of various dishes and named after the round platter used to serve food, one for fish and meat eaters and the other vegetarian.

Both had some dishes in common: Tadka dal, yellow lentils tempered with cumin and garlic; a creamy raita; a chopped mixed vegetable salad; stir-fried vegetables with coconut and curry leaf; pilau rice and naan bread.

They both also had a dessert dish of gulab jamun, a caramelised milk dumpling with pistachio, a sort of doughnut in a sticky sauce.

Where they really stood out were the three different dishes on each.

On one platter it was the laal maas, a fiery Rajasthani curry with lamb so tender it virtually melted in the mouth; chicken korma in Hyderabadi style with cashew nut and Masala fried pollock in a feather-light batter with chilli and carom seed, so good it made me want to order a full size dish of it.

On the vegetable thali was Panjabi style paneer and pea butter masala; mushroom dhania curry and star of the show grilled aubergine

with sesame, tamarind & peanut crumble.

A great way to get tasters to decide what your favourites are.

Cinnamon Kitchen’s JoHo Soho pop up is open on the terrace, weather permitting, until the end of September.
