A YOUNG person remains in hospital after falling from the roof of Bicester’s Sainsbury’s store.

The incident happened at the shop, which is attached to the multi-storey car park, in Pioneer Square shortly after 11am on Thursday.

There was a major police and operation in place in the town centre after it happened and workers in nearby shops said they heard that the youngster jumped or fell from the roof of the store car park.

One woman who works in the area and asked not to be named said an eyewitness had told her they saw a person on the floor next to the car park, surrounded by a large crowd of people.

The woman said she had been told the youth was still alive when taken from the scene in an ambulance.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) confirmed it was called at 11.05am to reports that a person had fallen from a height, and sent several ambulances and medics to the scene.

SCAS spokeswoman Michelle Archer said its paramedics had treated a male patient with serious injuries who was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Sainsbury’s said that its Bicester store staff worked with the paramedics when they arrived to assist in looking after the young person.

The company also added that its thoughts were with the young person and their family.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that its officers were called to a ‘fear for welfare’ incident in the area shortly after 11am and its officers had assisted a young person.

A spokesman for the force, David Marsh, said on Tuesday that the young person still remained in hospital.

He was unable to give an update on their condition.

The area in which is happened is part of the regeneration of Bicester’s town centre where the supermarket was built alongside Vue cinema and multiple other shops beneath the multi-storey car park.
