A mini festival which was born out of a garden party takes place in Yarnton this weekend.

Festinho started life as a fundraising and arts festival called Minichill in 2005.

Just 500 tickets are available for the event, which has raised nearly £20,000 for Action for Brazil's Children Trust since it started, but festival-goers will have a host of .

Among the acts signed up to perform at the three-day event are Wheatley-based band A Silent Film, UK Beatboxing champion Beardyman, carnival band Sol Samba and Oxford act 30 Pounds of Bone.

Event manager Simon Strick said: "One of the principles behind doing this is really not to have big names, partly because it is a huge cost and also it is very difficult to try and persuade big names to play for free.

"What we are trying to do is provide a friendly, family, quality weekend but not to attract thousands and thousands of people - it is the people who make it."

The idea for the event started at a birthday party in Yarnton three years ago.

The following year the first festival was held, with organisers asking for donations, then last year the event moved temporarily to Marlowe and a small charge was made for tickets.

Mr Strick said: "It's really evolved since then. We have had to restrict the numbers because of the size of the site but we are back to the original site in Yarnton."

As well as the live music stage, there will be a disco shed, a DJ barn, art workshops, a kids area, a healers/massage zone, a bonfire and an open decks session, where budding DJs will be able to show off their stuff.

To add to the carnival atmosphere, tomorrow will be a fancy dress day with revellers asked to dress to impress.

Mr Strick said: "It's going to be like a big garden party where if you don't know the person standing next to you, you are going to know them within about 10 minutes.

"We're doing fancy dress just because fancy dress is fun. If you get people to dress up it raises the bar a little bit and people put more effort into it."

He added: "I am most excited about looking across the field at hundreds of people and seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing not only are they having fun but they are contributing to a fantastic charity too."
