Mobile police stations are to be set up in Marston and Headington for the first time to give residents a chance to talk about the problems they have.

Neighbourhood beat officers will man temporary police stations offering a range of free services in their respective areas on Saturday and Sunday.

Pc Jon Shaw, neighbourhood officer for Marston, said: "The reason for the mobile station visits to these areas is to be closer to the communities we cover.

"By setting up a station in the middle of Headington and Marston, it makes us more accessible to residents.

"Sometimes you find that people may have problems they don't tell us about until they come to a head. We want people to come and tell us about these problems before they get that far."

The mobile police station will be outside the Co-op, in London Road, Headington, on Saturday between 9am and 1pm. It will then be outside the shops in Cherwell Drive, Marston, on Sunday at the same times.

Pc Shaw is also hoping residents will come forward and help the neighbourhood teams with ongoing issues in the two areas.

He said: "We currently have an antisocial problem with mini motorbikes in the Marston area, as well as issues with criminal damage in the Headington area.

"If there are any residents with information about these problems, we would urge them to take this opportunity to come forward."

Officers will be carrying out free postcode stamping for bikes, handing out tamperproof screws for car licence plates and offering advice on crime reduction.

Headington neighbourhood officer Pc Chris Miles said: "It's a great chance for people to come and meet us, as not many people may know who we are.

"Even if people don't have any issues, we still want them to come along and meet us as the day is all about building ties with the local community and getting to know people."
