A team of Abingdon town councillors is touring the town's flood-hit areas in a move to to build up a comprehensive picture of events - allowing residents to be better prepared in the event of another disaster.

A questionnaire is being delivered to all homes that suffered in last month's flood.

Flooding affected dozens of homes and properties in Abingdon, mainly in the south of the town, bordering the River Ock, although some streets in parts of north Abingdon were hit when the river Stert burst its banks.

The information collected from the survey will be collated and sent to councils, the Environment Agency and emergency services for inclusion on their data bases and mapping systems.

Town councillor Samantha Bowring, whose home in Turberville Close was flooded with two feet of water, said: "It is important that we receive as much information as possible from people whose homes were flooded and where they are situated.

"Some properties suffered only light flooding but many suffered the brunt of the water from the river Ock.

"Another important factor beginning to emerge is that although people were warned that their homes were at risk there appeared to be no proper order and many of the worst affected properties in vulnerable streets were not alerted until much later."
