A man who may have been carrying a firearm attempted to rob a woman at the Oxford Bus Company in Watlington Road, Cowley, today.

The incident happened at around 7.50am when a man, for whom there is no description, threatened a female cashier who had just left the cash office.

But the 39-year-old unnamed woman managed to break free and the would-be robber left empty-handed, leaving on the back of a large motorcycle driven by another man.

Dc Steve Clarke said: "We believe that the men on the motorcycle had driven past the building a few times earlier in the morning.

"One of the men then got off the bike, walked onto the site and hid behind a bin before trying to rob the victim.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed a powerful-looking motorcycle with two men on it which was acting suspiciously in this area earlier today."

Police believe a firearm may have been used in the attempted robbery and the woman was said to be left shaken by the ordeal.

They are particularly keen to speak to the driver of an old-style yellow Renault Megane, which was seen overtaking the motorbike on Watlington Road.

They would also like to speak to the driver of a white Transit van with ladders on the roof which slowed down to allow the motorcycle on to Watlington Road. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dc Clarke on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
