WALLINGFORD Castle Gardens hosted a free garden party to celebrate 100 years of the RAF and its ‘special link’ with the town at the weekend.

Crowds young and old flocked to Sunday afternoon’s bunting-filled event, which put on an eclectic set of activities for attendees.

Sub-par weather did not take the gloss off the event, which pulled together a tug of war match and performance by the Military Wives Choir.

RAF veterans and local representatives from RAF Benson attended, while a Williams F1 show car, ‘RAF activities’, stalls, refreshments and a barbecue were also on offer.

RAF Benson spokeswoman Nikki Hamilton said: "We were honoured to be invited to join Wallingford Town Council for their RAF100 garden party. We know that we are not always the quietest of neighbours and we really do appreciate the support of our local town. These type of community events help to reinforce that close relationship."

She added: "It was a fantastic afternoon, even though we didn’t win the tug of war."
