It seems a long time since the first bulk shipments of Aussie wine arrived here in 1985 and yet the country remains incredibly popular as a wine producer. These are full, fun, fruit-driven styles that are equally good on their own or with food.

The Australian Odyssey mixed case costs £66 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines:

Lantana Sémillon/Chardonnay 2007, New South Wales: From the Trentham Cliffs in New South Wales, this wine has a preponderance of sémillon with a touch of chardonnay to add fragrance to the mix. Flavours of lime and citrus mingle with tropical fruit and hints of pineapple - delicious.

Commissioner's Block Viognier 2006, South Eastern Australia: From Marbein in South Eastern Australia, this wonderfully rich wine has stone fruit flavours of ripe apricots, peaches and orange blossom, making it an ideal match for Chinese or Indian food, especially mild curries.

Solora Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2004, Western Australia: The cool climate of the Margaret River gives this wine its aromatic quality and structure, producing a delicious wine that is more subtle and elegant than many from other parts of Australia. The cabernet shines through with flavours of rich blackcurrant, with a hint of plums from the merlot. Delicious with grilled meats and tuna.

De Bortoli Lizard Point Shiraz 2006, New South Wales: You just can't beat a good Aussie shiraz. There's nothing like it really, with those classic flavours of eucalyptus, berry fruit, touches of leather and a hint of vanilla. A versatile wine for any occasion which goes with a variety of foods, especially red meats and rich dishes of any sort.
