TWO watches worth thousands of pounds were stolen from a jewellery shop in Oxford yesterday.

Staff at Goldsmiths in the Clarendon Centre confirmed two Tag Heuer watches were taken from the store at about 5pm on Saturday.

Though it was not confirmed exactly which models were taken, Swiss-made Tag Heuer watches start at about £1,000 and can cost as much as £15,000 each.

The shop has been targeted for watches several times in the last year, including last September, when a teenager took a £27,000 watch and avoided jail.

Police also put out an CCTV appeal after a man tried a watch on in store on December 4 and walked out wearing it.

Goldsmiths was also the subject of a major burglary on New Year's Eve in 2015, when masked men broke in and smashed cabinets with hammers.

The gang got away with thousands of pounds worth of watches, but police later caught them and they were jailed for their role in this and other crimes.
