A 'RAPIDLY' spreading field fire near Bicester this afternoon is thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire crews from Bicester, Kidlington and Thame acted quickly to put out the blaze which was tearing through the Gavray Drive nature area by Langford Village.

A tree was thought to have been torched, igniting the fire which spread uncontrolled across a couple of hundred metres of field and hedgerow.

Oxford Mail:

Fire fighters were on the scene just after 4pm and had to shuttle water and use beaters and hosereels to extinguish the fire.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has again urged people to take great care, and avoid any form of fires to reduce the risk of flames spreading.

The latest blaze was one of a number in the Bicester area after fires near the Leisure Centre and at a field in Caversfield.

Last week the fire service revealed it has attended more than 160 calls to fires connected with the hot weather in the last four weeks.
