THAMES Water has said an ongoing leak in Horspath should be fixed today after more than two months.

Residents have asked for the problem to be solved on numerous occasions and feared that ‘thousands of gallons’ of water had been wasted.

The water firm clarified that it had prioritised other problems in the network as the leak hadn’t cut off water supplies to people in the area.

In a statement, Thames Water said: “The leak on Horspath Road was first reported last month but as it wasn’t affecting water supplies and was manageable, we prioritised other more severe as we worked hard to conserve as much water as possible during the heatwave.

“As it has now deteriorated it’s a high priority and we expect to have it repaired by today.”

The leak was just yards from Oxford United’s new training ground, which has been without water since it was completed forcing the players to train elsewhere.

Thames Water said the issues were unrelated and explained the delays with the club’s water system.

It said: “We originally planned to connect the new sports complex to the water supply on July 17, but as the job needed temporary traffic lights the council asked us to delay it until the end of the month.

“However, after speaking to the site’s owners and the council we brought the work forward, and the site is now connected.”
