SOME have refused to take heed of the recent warnings about rapidly spreading field fires as yet another goes up in flames.

The fire tore through a field close to Bicester Leisure Centre on Saturday after 'one or more children' were witnessed starting it according to the fire service.

Oxford Mail:

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service posted online about the fire and said: "The fire was witnessed being started by one or more children and took just under an hour to fully extinguish.

"Thames Valley Police are assisting and investigating the fire as an individual was identified as possibly being involved."

It happened shortly after 6pm and comes despite numerous warnings recently about starting small fire in the dry weather.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also posted: "At any time, but even more so in this hot spell, any fire lighting can be extremely dangerous and this had potential to spread rapidly and affect nearby properties and vegetation."

Bicester Fire Station added it is responding to more incidents than average currently.

It was also called to a serious fire, also believed to be suspicious after more than one fire in the immediate area.

The fire took hold of a back garden fence, in the Merton Walk area, of Churchill Road, and quickly spread to the garden items, an outbuilding and nearby shed roof.

Oxford Mail:

Thames Valley Police are appealing for details to the fire which happened about 9.30pm to 9.45pm yesterday. (Sunday)

Didcot Fire Station were also called out to another field field as the grass verge in West Ilsley was set alight by a cigarette being thrown from a car window.

It happened shotley before midday and was extinguished by a neighbouring farmer stopping it from spreading any further.

Oxford Mail:

The fire station posted: "This was a very close call and shows the importance of not discarding cigarettes out of car windows."

Adding: "Had the fire not been extinguished before our arrival this very dry un harvest field would most certainly have gone up in flames potentially causing a major incident to be declared."
