AN OXFORD MP thinks the United States should be paying to cover the cost of policing Donald Trump's visit to Oxfordshire this week.
Layla Moran, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, called on the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to ask the US Government for funding so British taxpayers don't lose out.
The politician has already pledged to 'lead' the protests against Mr Trump's visit to Blenheim Palace on Thursday.
She said: “I know that Thames Valley police will do an first rate, professional job of keeping everyone safe and policing the visit by President Trump and the associated protests.
“But it’s really not on that local police budgets should suffer as a result, or that the Government should have to use taxpayers’ money to police a visit that the vast majority of people don’t want in the first place.
“Scores of residents have contacted me to oppose this visit. It would be a further insult if Trump’s visit leads to less money being available to already-over stretched community policing in Oxfordshire.”
The Thame Valley Police Commissioner Anthony Stansfeld has previously warned protests will make the force's job 'more difficult and expensive.'
