VETERANS and members of the public came together in Oxford to pay tribute to a soldier who died in Estonia.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Private Reece Miller, 29, of 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment are not yet known but the Ministry of Defence confirmed his death on Tuesday and said he died from a ‘non-battle injury.

An aircraft carrying his body arrived at RAF Brize Norton yesterday and a cortege arrived at the John Radcliffe Hospital after 4pm.

Veterans formed a guard of honour in Headley Way, at St Anthony of Padua Church in Headington.

The location has become known as ‘The Final Turn’ and has become a key part of the route repatriated soldiers take from the Brize Norton base.

Lynda Atkins, county chairman of the Royal British Legion was unable to attend but said: “It has become traditional for veterans to gather to pay their respects.”

About 800 British troops were deployed to Estonia in February to counter aggression from Russia. The Ministry of Defence said an investigation into the death was under way.
