TICKETS have gone on sale for this year's Oxford Half Marathon as preparations begin for its return to the city in October.

More than 12,000 runners are expected to take in the event for hundreds of different charities.

Race tickets - at £48 - are now available for the October 7 Virgin Sport run through the city centre and North Oxford.

Virgin Sport general manager, Jessica Frey, said: "It's going to be a fantastic day, around such an iconic city and route, so sign up quick to secure your place while they are still available.

"We are thrilled to be hosting the Oxford Half Marathon, and we're focused on creating an amazing event for both runners and their fans.

"Everybody in the community has been supportive of what we're trying to achieve and embraced the Virgin Sport spirit."

Local bands and DJs placed at every mile will entertain runners throughout the 13.1 mile course.

City councillor Louise Upton, board member for Healthy Oxford, said: "It is a great pleasure to see people of all ages and abilities jogging past the beautiful backdrop of some of Oxford’s iconic buildings.

"We would encourage everyone to take part, sponsor someone or just sit with your neighbours and cheer on the runners."
