WITH Donald Trump likely to stop off in Oxfordshire next month, Oxford Mail readers had their say on whether they would welcome the visit from the US President.

National reports earlier this week suggested that the President would dine at Blenheim Palace on Thursday, July 12, as part of his UK trip.

And Oxfordshire residents are preparing themselves for the US president to pass through the county.

A poll on our website yesterday revealed that 74 per cent of readers were against President Trump visiting the county as part of his UK tour in two weeks’ time.

The ballot proved popular, with more than 800 readers casting their vote within five hours.

President Trump is set to arrive earlier than the original date of Friday, July 13, when he will visit the Queen.

Blenheim Palace will be closed on Wednesday, July 11, and Thursday, July 12, fuelling speculation that he could visit on the second day.

The first day could see the palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, closed for security checks and preparations.

After leaving Oxfordshire, he will hold talks with Theresa May at the Prime Minister’s country retreat, Chequers, before meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle.

Reports suggest Mr Trump may require 10,000 police officers drafted in to protect him from mass protests and the threat of a terror attack.
