UPDATE - Camp moves to land near primary school as children told to 'avoid the area'

A SHETLAND pony was recovered at a travellers’ site in Abingdon on Sunday after going missing from a family home.

Police retrieved the animal from the encampment at Larkmead School fields in Faringdon Road yesterday afternoon.

The six-year-old pony, named Kizzie, went missing from a home in Surrey early on Saturday morning.

Owner Emma Hughes, who had issued an appeal to find her beloved pet on Facebook, said: “I’m ecstatic to have her back. “I’d like to thank everyone on Facebook for helping to find her.”

Oxford Mail:

Police were notified of the pony’s location after local residents spotted the animal on the camp which arrived at the school on Saturday.

Some have said the group are the same who moved onto a nature reserve in Wantage earlier this month and were asked to leave by the district council.

Officers at the scene said they had served written notification for the travellers to leave the site by this morning.

Thames Valley Police said its officers had made no arrests in relation to the recovered pony.
