PASSENGERS travelling from Oxford to London are more satisfied with Chiltern Railways' service than rivals Great Western Railway, a survey has revealed.

The National Rail Passenger Survey - commissioned by independent body Transport Focus - revealed that 94 per cent of people using Chiltern's Oxford to London service was good or satisfactory.

Great Western Railways' London and Thames Valley services - which includes the Oxford to London Paddington trains had an 80 per cent good or satisfactory score.

When the same routes were compared in terms of punctuality and reliability - Chiltern Railways scored 90 per cent while GWR scored 65 per cent good or satisfactory.

Chiltern Railways managing director, Dave Penney, said: "We are delighted that Chiltern Railways is the train company of choice on the Oxford to London route.

"Though we welcome positive feedback, we are committed to improving the areas of service where the NRPS has shown we can do a better job.

"In response to passenger feedback and given our commitment to continuous improvement, we’ve already invested £2 million in new ticket vending machines to make travelling with us easier.

"We have also upgraded our website and App, to make it a one-stop-ticket-buying-shop for passengers and we continue to develop this App based on what passengers tell us."

The firm launched its Oxford to London Marylebone service - in direct competition with GWR - in October 2016 when the line upgrade between Oxford and Oxford Parkway was completed.
