A MAN has been arrested for GBH after an attack in Cowley left the victim with a broken leg.

Police are renewing their appeal for information about the incident, which took place at around 6.30pm on Monday, May 14.

The force, which has arrested a 26-year-old Oxford man, is particularly keen to talk to the driver of a white van seen in the area at the time of the assault.

People from the van leapt out to help the victim following the attack.

A 55-year-old man was walking along Garsington Road near the Premier Inn and Oxford Business Park in Cowley when he was attacked.

He suffered a broken leg and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where he remains today.

The offender was described as being white, with brown hair, and aged between late-twenties and early-thirties.

Officers now have new images of a white van and would like to talk to the occupants as witnesses to this assault.

The van appears to have a bike or surfboard rack at the back of the vehicle and black alloys or steel rims.

Investigating officer Detective Constable James Macaro, of Force CID at Oxford, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to the assault to make contact with me.

“This was an unprovoked attack that happened at a busy time of the day and there were many passing vehicles.

“I particularly would like to speak to the occupants of the white van, as they offered to help the victim but have not passed on their details. They are not in any trouble as they are believed to be potential witnesseshowever they may have crucial information which may assist us in our investigations.

“Anyone with any information is urged to call police on 101 and quote reference 43180145640.

“Alternatively, if you don't want to speak directly to police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details will be taken and you will not go to court.”
