PEOPLE are being urged to ‘get loud’ to help deaf children do the same.

Chesterton charity Auditory Verbal, which helps children with permanent hearing loss to listen and speak, is calling on people to dig out their loudest outfits.

Each year the charity, based near Bicester, hosts Loud Shirt Day to raise funds and awareness for its work giving children the chance to step away from relying on lip reading and sign language.

This can include bright-coloured shirts, hats and socks.

Chief executive Anita Grover said: “I hope as many people as possible in Bicester and the surrounding areas will take part in Loud Shirt Day and help give more deaf children an equal start in life.”

This year Loud Shirt Day will be staged on Friday, June 8, with a host of schools, workplaces and community groups joining in to raise awareness.
