OXFORDSHIRE could be battered by heavy rain and wind as a year of unpredictable weather continues.

The county has already transitioned to summer highs after being covered by a blanket of snow earlier in the year.

Now, it looks as though a return to wintry conditions is on the cards, with the Met Office issuing a warning of rain and wind.

Temperatures will plunge to about 4C on Monday, which could feel as cold as -1C in the wind.

And the Met Office's latest video forceast said some of the rain could turn to snow over higher ground, such as The Chilterns.

The forecaster added: "Although it is unclear how far west the heaviest rain will extend, accumulations of 25-40 mm could occur quite widely with perhaps 50-70mm in places during this period.

"The heavy rain will be accompanied by strong to gale force northerly winds and it may be cold enough to produce some snow on high ground although this seems unlikely to settle."

Oxford Mail:

Some flooding could occur and motorists have been warned to be careful on the roads during the period of the warning, which covers the whole day.

The forcecaster says:

  • Spray and flooding is likely to result in difficult driving conditions and possible some road closures, as well as delays or cancellations to train and bus services

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services

  • Some damage to trees and other structures may occur

  • Some roads and bridges may close
