HIGH Street fashion chain Urban Outfitters is to open its first store in Oxford.
The clothing giant is one of two chains to be opening a new outlet in the city with health and beauty shop, Superdrug, planning to relocate from Market Street to the Westgate Centre.
The location of the new Urban Outfitters is yet to be confirmed, however, it is believed the store will also be located in the Westgate Centre.
Both high street brands are currently recruiting for staff at the new Oxford stores.
Superdrugs' plans to relocate from Market Street, will be a further blow to that area of the city centre with traders in the nearby Covered Market calling for the council to do more to attract new businesses.
In March Covered Market traders, including Oxford Cheese Company boss Baron Robert Pouget, hit out at the management of the market claiming it had ‘lost its soul’.
Oxford City Council said it was in discussions with a number of independent fresh produce retailers and had plans to divide and refurbish units to attract start-ups.
