FAMILIES will charge through a sea of foam as one of Oxford’s most popular fundraisers replaces powdered paint with a colourful lather.

Helen & Douglas House has unveiled a new event in Cutteslowe Park, which for years has provided the backdrop for its Colour Run.

The event, which saw supporters showered with colourful paint as they ran around, will be replaced this year with the Bubble Rush.

The frothy fun run will take place at the same venue on Sunday, June 10, and participants can sign up to take part from tomorrow.

Lauren Kemp, head of events and supporter partnerships at the East Oxford hospice, said: “Our summer event at Cutteslowe Park has always been one full of fun and laughter.

“It has allowed families to make new memories together, reflecting the ethos of Helen & Douglas House as a hospice where precious memories are made.

“This year we decided it was time for some new memories to be made.

“Bubble Rush will be a fun and exciting event, guaranteed to bring laughter and memories for all the family.”

Bubble Rush events are staged around the UK, each in support of a local hospice.

Participants can walk, jog or sprint a five-kilometre route and pass through bubble stations along the way.

The four stations feature cannons which pump out colourful foam, reaching up to four feet in depth.

Information on the Bubble Rush website states the foam mixture is ‘completely safe’ but that young children should be carried through.

Vicky Newell, whose four-year-old daughter Jessica receives care at Helen House, encouraged people to sign up and support the hospice.

Jessica has a life-shortening neurological condition called Leigh’s Disease, and has used the hospice since her diagnosis in 2014.

Mrs Newell, who lives in High Wycombe, said: “When Jessica was diagnosed we were advised to enjoy every day that we had with her.

“Knowing we have that support [of the hospice] takes some of the fear out of our situation, knowing there will be people to help us if the worst happens.”

She said the Magdalen Road hospice gave the family hope for Jessica’s future.

Early bird entry fees for the first 200 people to register for the Bubble Rush are £15 for adults, £10 for children aged 16 or younger, and free for children younger than five, or £45 for a family.
