FURNITURE, broken electricals and even musical instruments were restored to working order at Oxfordshire's latest 'repair café'.

Villagers in Cholsey near Wallingford did their bit to limit local landfill with their free fix-it session last month.

The session saw 65 per cent of items returned to working order.

Pitching up at Cholsey Pavilion on March 17, organiser Ian Wheeler ran an electricals repair station, while volunteer Anna Milloy ran a fabrics and sewing station, Sim Beardall-Richards ran an 'adhesives station' and Munro Watt also leant a hand.

Ms Milloy not only lent a hand, she also took advantage of her fellow fixers' expertise and commented on Facebook afterwards: "I’m so delighted to have got my Kenwood mixer mended at today’s repair cafe. Laurence Cockman Munro Watt you are both brilliant.

"The mixer has been sitting waiting to be repaired for many years and it it really wonderful to be able to use it again, thank you."

The repair specialities on offer included furniture, electrical, bicycles, computers, fabrics, musical instruments and a wide range of adhesives for general repairs.

Following the successful outing, the fixing friends have invited locals to bring even more damaged and unserviceable items to the next Cholsey Repair Café at The Pavilion in Station Road between 11am and 2pm on Saturday, May 12, where expert fixers will endeavour to assist with repairs in return for cost of parts and a donation towards operating costs.
