Water supplies to an east Oxford pub cut off when workers damaged a pipe were fixed after four hours.

Gallons of water spurted from the pipe in St Clements after contractors working on worn out road surfaces apparently struck the pipe supplying the Old Black Horse pub at around 5pm on Thursday, August 9.

The pub, which holds its weekly quiz night on a Thursday, decided to remain open, despite being unable to use toilets, wash glasses or allow guests in the hotel accommodation to shower.

Thames Water officials shut off the water within minutes of the accident and the problem was fixed, with supply resumed, by 9pm the same evening.

It is not thought any of the other homes and businesses in the area were cut off.
