A NETWORK of 'repair cafes' is planned across South Oxfordshire and in Oxford after the success of the initiative in Didcot.
More than 100 people visited the first cafe, organised by Sustainable Didcot, which aims to pair people who need household items repaired with keen experts who can fix them.
Organiser Ed Polehampton reports people were queueing out the door to visit one of their seven fixing stations, specialising in repairing everything from electrical items to clocks and watches.
An estimated 55kg of stuff including 39kg of electricals was fixed and saved from having to be thrown away.
Fixed items included vacuum cleaners, several laptops and an air mattress.
A second repair cafe is planned for April 28 and then regularly every two months and Mr Polehampton said he has had interest from groups in Oxford, Wantage, Wallingford, Chinnor and Cholsey looking to set up or expand similar initiatives.
