Dozens of friends of two men killed in a road crash are going to drive their cars to the spot where they died to release balloons in tribute.

Members of Cruise Bicester, a group of young car enthusiasts, will hold a two-minute silence at the scene of the crash on SundayAug12 to remember James McCabe, 21, and Adam Davis, 19.

Friends said the two young men, who died when their red Peugeot 305 went out of control on the B4030 Middleton Stoney Road on Monday, were well-known among the group.

Cruise Bicester founder member Matt Smith, 23, said: "Adam was a good bloke, always up for a laugh and into his cars. We were very shocked. Everyone's really quiet and really down."

Mr Smith, of Blenheim Drive, Launton, said members of the group met on Tuesday evening at the scene.

He said: "Someone bought a card and we all went up there together, parked on the grass and had a two-minute silence. About 40 of us signed the card and we went up there in about 20 or 25 cars.

"There were already people there, their school friends, so there were probably about 100 people there altogether."

Now Mr Smith has bought 200 balloons and is planning a memorial event for the pair on Sunday. He is expecting at least 50 Cruise members to turn up.

The van driver said: "We will go up in convoy and squeeze as many cars up there as we can.

"We will hand balloons out to people who are already there, hold another silence, let the balloons out and get people to think of their favourite memories of them. Then we will do a drive past at the scene."

Meetings of car enthusiasts, known as cruises, have increased in recent years.

They involve groups of car owners getting together to socialise and show off their vehicles.

Mr Smith formed Cruise Bicester two years ago in memory of Craig Bentley, 22, of Ambrosden, who was murdered by work colleague Dean Irvine, along with Bicester nursery nurse Rebecca McGlone.

On Tuesday, friends laid flowers and other tributes, including an Everton football shirt and candles, at the scene of the crash near the junction with Howes Lane at the western edge of Bicester.

Thames Valley Police are investigating the cause of the crash and have seized mobile phone footage of the accident.

The two men have still to be formally identified but were named in many tributes left at the scene.

Police spokesman Kate Smith said officers were aware of Sunday's memorial event and were liaising with the organisers.

Police have appealed for witnesses to call 08458 505505.
