It is a great shame that one of the effects of the floods that hit the city so hard has been the cancellation of Oxford In Bloom.
It will be an obvious disappointment to the hundreds of gardeners who have worked so hard all year to make their gardens something special.
But they can at least console themselves that they have again helped to brighten up Oxford, in what has been a pretty poor summer.
