TEN-MAN Didcot Town rued missed chances as they went down 2-0 at Winchester City on Saturday.

The result saw the hosts displace the Railwaymen, who had Stuart Cattell sent off in the second half, in the West Division play-off positions.

The visitors dominated possession, but were unable to convert a number of chances. With the tough run of games continuing, manager Andy Ballard has a selection headache with both Adam Learoyd and Stuart Cattell suspended for next weekends clash against Evesham United with the latter sent off on Saturday for two bookable offences.

On a pitch that cut up badly, Didcot’s George Jeacock had the game’s first big chance, firing into the side-netting when he could have crossed.

Winchester’s Ryan Pryce then denied the visitors with good saves from first Matty Woodley and Cameron McNeill.

Cattell saw a header hit the bar, before Felipe Barcelos nodded the rebound over.

Winchester took the lead with a freak goal in the 48th minute.

Jamie Barron launched an effort from 50 yards which looped over a stranded Didcot keeper Leigh Bedwell.

The match was decided by two penalty incidents midway through the half.

Didcot thought they should have had a spot-kick when Barcelos appeared to be brought down by Adam Brice just as he was about to pull the trigger.

The referee waved away the protests, and the hosts wwhenas Rob Carr was tripped by Cattell.

The Didcot defender, already on a booking, was shown a second yellow card, before Barron sent Bedwell the wrong way to double the hosts’ lead from the spot.

Winchester only had a man advantage for five minutes as Brice was also sent off for a second bookable offence,

Didcot pushed forward but despite Josh Pin going close, they could not break down the hosts’ defence.
