Abingdon Rotary Club is linking up with the Phoenix Land Rover Club to stage this year's Abingdon 4x4 at Dalton Barracks over the weekend of September 29-30.

Proceeds from the two-day event will go to support the Benson-based Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Also backing the festival will be Frogs Island 4x4 from Didcot and the Land Rover Enthusiasts magazine, whose editorial department is based in Wallingford. The course design consultant is John Jennings, who has significant experience in a wide range of competitive events, from the humidity of dense rainforests to sub zero temperatures in the French Alps and the scorching deserts of Morocco.

Mr Jennings said: "I am looking forward to the Abingdon festival. I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to put something back into the sport that has given me so much enjoyment.

"My aim is to design a course that will run smoothly without causing damage to standard vehicles, but with optional sections ranging in difficulty for the more adventurous and experienced drivers."

All profits from the Abingdon 4x4 festival go to charity. It is now in its seventh year and so far more than £42,000 has been raised for good causes.
