A TINY Oxfordshire village's battle against being 'supersized' will star in a new television documentary series.

The first episode of 'The New Builds are Coming : Battle in the Countryside' will focus on plans to build 3,500 homes in Culham.

Film-maker Richard Macer spent nine months in Oxfordshire, meeting councillors, developers, architects and campaigners to look at 'how to mend the broken housing system.'

The programme will be shown on BBC Two at 9pm tonight.

Plans for the new homes in Culham were unveiled by South Oxfordshire District Council in its local plan, which sets out a blueprint for future development, including preferred housing sites.

The homes would be built in the green belt between Abingdon Road and the River Thames.

Culham currently only has a population of just 453, according to the 2011 census.

Villagers fear that infrastructure including roads and drains could not cope with the influx of new people.

The blurb for the series says that Mr Macer found residents 'furious' at plans to supersize the 'tiny charming village' of Culham.

It asks whether 'little' Culham has 'become the centre of a gold rush?' after 'sinister developments' started to grip the small community.

The second film of the series stays in Oxfordshire and looks at the story of creating new developments from scratch in Long Hanborough, near Witney.

An architect of a new development next to the village is quoted as saying: "No one has a right to a view -unfortunately.

"Things change, and we have to get used to that in Britain.'.
