Great news for fans of street food stall Taste Tibet! - by Julie and Yeshi

We are bringing our signature momo dumplings and legendary Himalayan curries to much-loved East Oxford bakery cafe Silvie every Thursday night starting in January.

This will be a very informal pop-up - no booking required - and guests are invited to eat in and enjoy access to Silvie's bar, or take away for a night at home.

Our collaboration with Silvie represents a very rare opportunity for diners to enjoy a sit-down Tibetan meal here in the UK, and the first of its kind in Oxford.

There are less than 1,000 Tibetan people in the whole of the UK, and just a dozen resident Tibetans here in Oxford. The result is very limited representation of Tibetan restaurants and takeaways (currently just two in all of the UK), and very little awareness of what Tibetan food looks and tastes like.

For those unfamiliar with the cuisine, expect flavours and textures that are recognisable but different, surprising but entirely accessible. You may know dumplings, but momos will be new, and altogether more mind-blowing experience. You think you like curry, but not till you try it the Himalayan way! Tibetan food is hearty but healthy, fresh but filling.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Tibetan people are vegetarian, and we always have meat on our menu. However, Taste Tibet also caters extensively to vegans, as well as to those with all kinds of restricted diets. Dine with peace of mind! All our curries are gluten-free, and none of our food contains dairy or nuts.

And relax some more! All our food is sourced locally wherever possible, and our momos contain vegetables grown in a local Oxford allotment. We try as far as possible to replicate the real mountain culinary experience, and we never cook with processed ingredients or other nasties.

Have you tried our home-made chilli dips? Watch out! They contain tongue-tingling peppercorns that we source direct from our home town in Tibet. They are completely unique to the Taste Tibet menu, a whole new taste experience.

You will not find food like this anywhere else! Before the secret is out, and Tibetan food goes mainstream, get it here first!

But let me give you a a bit of background about Taste Tibet. Chef Yeshi learned to cook outdoors in the Himalayas at a young age for his nomadic family. During a 12 year spell in India, he picked up new culinary influences, and Taste Tibet is a showcase of all the tastes and flavours that Yeshi has learned to use and fuse.

Since 2014 we have been serving up fresh mountain food from our regular stall in Oxford's Gloucester Green Market (currently Wednesdays only), as well as from our beautiful Tibetan tent, which we pitch up all over the UK in true Tibetan nomad style.

During the summer months, we cater for thousands at the Oxford and Cambridge university college balls, and we serve hungry hoards around the clock every weekend of the festival season.

Our aim is to put Tibetan food on the map: it is time that somebody brought this mouthwatering mountain cuisine to the masses.

Thursdays 6.30pm - 9.30pm, Silvie Bakery Cafe, 281 Iffley Rd, Oxford OX4 4AQ ,and Wednesdays 9am-4pm, Gloucester Green Market.
