FORGET driverless cars as a thing of the future – flying cars are the way forward, according to schoolboy Max Zhang.

The youngster is among Year 3 pupils at Windmill Primary School in Headington, who have been bringing their vision for Oxford to life.

From hover boots to street ‘pods’ for homeless people, they have made tiny prototypes out of cardboard and Lego.

The school set the challenge for all year groups as part of Oxford City Council’s 2050 consultation, which asks residents and businesses how they want the city to look in a few decades’ time.

Ideas generated by Windmill pupils will be condensed into a video and sent to the council.

Headteacher Lynn Knapp said: “We wanted children to think outside of the box and let their imagination fly.

“I’ve been really impressed by their explanations, particularly those linking with the environment and morals.”

Year 3 pupils (aged seven or eight) were first to take part, and have created 20 models so far.
