THERESA May’s Cabinet reshuffle continued yesterday but Oxfordshire’s MPs were left out in the cold when it came to junior ministerial roles.
Of the county’s six MPs, four are members of the ruling Conservative party.
But John Howell, who represents Henley, Robert Courts, who replaced David Cameron as MP for Witney in 2016, and Banbury MP Victoria Prentis were not offered any Government jobs and will remain as backbenchers.
There was also no return to Government for Wantage MP Ed Vaizey, who served as Minister of State for Culture,
Communications and Creative Industries throughout Mr Cameron’s tenure as Prime Minister.
Key junior ministerial changes included Boris Johnson’s brother Jo Johnson moving from his universities role to transport.
He has come under fire recently for the decision to appoint journalist Toby Jones to the board of a new university regulator due to the journalist’s controversial comments.
On Monday changes at the top of Government were announced with Justine Greening quitting after she refused to move from heading Education to Work and Pensions.
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, meanwhile, kept his position and added social care to the job title despite many hospitals, including Oxford’s John Radcliffe, declaring a ‘black alert’ as they struggled to cope over the Christmas period.
