Oxford University researchers are part of a consortium which has been awarded funding of £3m to assess how humans are responding to rapid environmental changes.
A five-year project named Response of Humans to Abrupt Environmental Transitions has been funded by the Natural Environment Research Council.
Led by Royal Holloway, University of London, the project also brings together scientists from Oxford, the Natural History Museum and the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.
The scientists all have expertise in human palaeontology, archaeology, oceanography and volcanic geology.
