THE demolition of a building in Oxford city centre could get the go-ahead tonight - despite worries about it being so close to a listed church.

Councillors on the West Area planning committee will be asked to approve knocking down 40 St Thomas Street and use the vacant land for a new three storey building for three two-bedroom flats.

Councillors including leader Bob Price and deputy leader Susan Brown asked for it to be considered by the committee because of its proximity to St Thomas the Martyr Church.

The committee will consider the plan in the Old Library at Oxford Town Hall from 6pm tonight.
